In the event of a motor accident the following steps should be followed:
1. Police Report
All drivers involved in any motor accident regardless of the extent of damages, should record the following information, where practical, before the accident is reported to the nearest police station.
o Particulars of the accident
• Date, time & location of accident
• Measurements taken on the site
• Condition of road and road surface
o Personal injuries
• Any injuries sustained by the insured, driver(s) of other vehicle(s), passenger(s), pedestrian(s) etc
• Name, address, telephone number, age, nature of injuries and institution where treatment was received (if possible)
o Independent witnesses
• Name
• Address
• Telephone number
o Third party particulars (other vehicle(s))
• Vehicle registration number, make and model
• Name, address and telephone number of owner
• Other party’s insurer name and policy number (on insurance certificate)
• Driver’s permit number, date of birth and occupation
• Description of damage to the vehicle
o Third party particulars (property)
• Identify damaged structure i.e. wall, gate, fence
• Details of the damage
• Property owner’s name, address and telephone number
A note should also be made of the police station at which the accident was reported as well as the Policeman’s name and number.
2. Notify Beacon
Every claim must also be reported to Beacon immediately on the prescribed claim form which can be obtained at any registered branch or on the company’s website at beacon.co.tt.
All questions on the claim form should be answered and a clear statement giving the facts of the accident be provided. Where possible, the driver should provide a sketch of how the accident occurred. All vehicles should be inspected at a Beacon office, where possible.
3. Submit the claim
When submitting a claim for consideration, the following is required:
• Completed & signed Claim Form (in the case of a Company the Claim Form should bear the Company Stamp)
• Copy of Driver’s Permit
• Certified Copy of Ownership
• VAT Certificate
• Estimate (cost of parts & labour)
• Full payment of the premium for the Policy, if outstanding
